Treat Yourself – Have a Spa Day

Treat Yourself – Have a Spa Day

Article by Ellie Smits

There comes a time in any person’s life, be they male or female, when they just need to get away from it all, relax and generally pamper themselves for a few hours of even a few days. For some people, they feel that the best thing to do when they need a rest is to literally rest and do nothing for a few days, while others opt to go on holiday. But for some people, the concept of relaxation can mean one thing, and one thing alone, and that is indulging in a spa day. Once the refuge of the rich and famous, the UK now has several hundred day and weekend spas most of which are open to the public. But if you’ve never visited a spa and don’t know where to start, here are a few tips that will help you find the right spa for you.

What Can You Expect From a Spa?

Spas have often been the subject of ridicule on TV, and we’ve all seen the adverts that make fun of the sight of grown women immersed in baths of mud. But the truth is that Spas offer a variety of treatments, from the very basics such as eyebrow and bikini line waxing, to much more contemporary and fashionable treatments, such as aromatherapy massage, hot stone massage and hydro baths. A spa is a place of relaxation, so remember that the décor and feeling of the spa are designed to help you unwind.

What Do You Need to Take to a Spa?

While many spas around the UK, such as spa days in Birmingham and London will provide you with a robe, towels and even a tote bag for personal items, all guests arriving at a spa need to bring a swimming costume and a pair of flip flops with them. The swim suit is to be worn in between treatments, and while some treatments, such as certain exfoliating scrubs and wraps call for you to be naked, it is spa rules that you wear a swimming costume in between these times. Flip flops are an absolute must as they are to be used while walking around the spa, and will obviously protect your feet from any hazards. Try not to forget your flip flops, as the spa may insist that you buy another pair to wear around the spa.

How Do You Conduct Yourself at a Spa?

As a spa is a place of relaxation, it’s very important that you keep unnecessary noise to a minimum, after all, other people are using the spa as well. As spas are usually run using an appointment schedule, it’s also very important that you arrive on time for any appointments you have, as there will be other guests who have appointments booked after you.

How Do I Find a Spa?

Finding a spa is easy, especially if you have internet access. If you live in Manchester, try typing ‘spa days in Manchester’ into a search engine. Once you’ve found your spa, the hard part begins as you must choose which treatments to go for.
