Discount Spa: 7 Ways to Save on Your Favorite Day Spa Treatments

Article by Jamie Jefferson

Few things are as relaxing and rejuvenating as a day at the spa. And few things make such wonderful gifts for moms, brides, and best friends than a few hours smelling the fresh oils and herbs, and enjoying true pampering while someone treats you like a queen.

And, if you know where to look, you can save money on your next spa treatments. Here are 7 ways to save:

1. The first thing you’ll want to do is check out the website of your favorite spa and check for specials that may be running this month and budget your spa treatments accordingly. Subscribe to the site’s email newsletter or RSS feed, if available, so you get immediate and automatic notification of new specials, coupons, deals and discounts.

2. Check for local spa coupons in coupon books, such as the Entertainment book, or any other discount book offered in your community.

3. Do a Google search for “day spa discounts” and “day spa coupons” along with your city, state, or zip code.

4. Ask if your favorite spa has a loyalty program. For example, you might get a punch pass each time you go in for a massage, with the tenth massage awarded to you for free.

5. If you live near a massage school, ask if the students will give massages for reduced rates. Students need practice and you can often get a great deal on a good massage from people working toward their licensure. The same goes for beauty schools for discounted manicures, pedicures and other treatments.

6. If you know someone who offers spa services, see if they would be willing to trade their services for some of your own. Maybe you could bring over a week’s worth of meals, for example, or design a brochure for their spa services, depending on your personal expertise.

7. Purchase discount spa gift certificates. There are two ways to purchase spa certificates: One is to visit your favorite spa and purchase a gift certificate for an appropriate amount. Make sure to ask at the front desk or visit the website to see if there are any current specials you should know about.

The second option is to purchase a spa gift certificate online. Various websites exist for booking appointments in different parts of the country, or you can use the nationwide option, called Spafinder, which sells gift certificates online that can then be redeemed (by yourself or a gift reciepient) at thousands of spas across the United States.

Throughout the year, you can occasionally find coupon codes to help you save a certain dollar amount or percentage of your total purchase, which will give you a true spa gift certificate discount, whether the spa treatment is for you or for a friend.

Here are more things to know about spa gift certificates:

* Spa gift certificates, whether purchased online or through the individual spa, can typically be purchased in various amounts, from on up, so it’s a great gift for groups who want to each pitch in a small amount for a larger gift.

* Keep in mind, too, that many spa gift certificates are going to expire within a year or so after you redeem.

* Even when using a spa gift certificate, don’t forget to allocate a tip for your technician.
